Just Keeping Busy

I am still trying to get the last few things done to put a cover on Winning Blue-Ribbon Hold’em and working on That’s All, Folks. I am also working as the co-author with one of the top players in the world on a new Tournament Hold’em book. I will release the name of the poker superstar as soon as we sign the contracts.  I hope to have the first book on the shelves by Christmas.

Not much is happening on the Poker Front. I did win a first place (355 entrants) in a cash tournament on the Spade Club (Click to Check Them Out) online site the other day. For all of the Pay to Play sites, I think it is the best out there. There are some wild, loose-aggressive players that rely too much on the “Luck Factor” to take down hands, but far less than most Freeroll sites.

I will be covering the WPT Legends of Poker Tournament at The Bicycle Club Casino (The Bike) in a week. I will be competing in the media event again. Last year “Miami John” Cernuto knocked me out with K – K to my A – 8. That was the table where I caught Hall of Fame player Barbara Enright’s tendancy to bluff with a moderate hand and a big stack from middle position. I used the tell against her when I knocked her out of a tournament at The Commerce Casino earlier this year.

Hello after Las Vegas!

I decided to start a blog to allow me to write shorter articles and pen about things going on in my poker life. My wife Aleda and I just returned from a trip that included Santa Cruz, CA; Bakersfield, CA; Las Vegas, NV and Yuma, AZ.

Aleda and I had a great lunch with Humberto Brenes, his family and fellow Costa Rican poker great Jose Rosencranz. I have found a new love at P.F. Chang’s. The Candied Cashew Shrimp, with melon balls is probably the greatest neo-Chinese dish known to man.   Unfortunately both were knocked out of the WSOP Main Event on Day 1B. I am rooting for them in the WPT Bellagio Cup in a few days.

I am on probably the worst run of my poker life. I have now gone four tournaments in the last three weeks without a cash. I came closest at Ceasar’s Palace Mega Stack $235 Event. With a starting field of 590 I was KOd in 66-69 place, 12-15 people from cashing out. I went All In against the table chip leader with my Jacks against Ace Queen. A Queen on the flop crippled my chances and one on the river did me in. What more could I do with a 57% chance pre-flop. I so often get knocked out near the cash cut-off my wife is calling me “Bubble Boy.”  I just cannot sit back close to the bubble just to cash, I always go for 1st. I made quick exits at Binions and the Stratosphere a few days latter.
